I want to use computers to make us think about other people. I'm still figuring out exactly how to do that. My current thoughts around it are all about visual culture at scale.
How does visual media reify and exacerbate online and offline harms to intersectionally marginalized communities?
If we examine visual culture as a sociotechnical system no one can opt out of, and fueled by social media, information communication technologies, and content generation systems, what stakeholders have the most power and how do they use it for harm?
How might we enable more mixed methods, particularly visual, research regarding sociotechnical systems with design and engineering thinking and tools?
